Steel Pipeline Tensile Testing

Tensile testing of steel pipe in pipeline transportation systems are covered in multiple test methods as shown below. Tensile testing these products can present a variety of gripping and strain measurement challenges based upon the shape of the pipe, the wall thickness, and the radius. If the full pipe is to be tested it must be plugged at each end to avoid crushing the ends during the tensile test. When the full section pipe is too large to be gripped by the test frame, longitudinal strip specimens are cut from the tubular product per ISO and ASTM standards.
