ISO 2411 Coating Adhesion Rubber-Coated & Plastics-Coated Fabrics

ISO 2411 specifies the standard test method for testing the adhesion of rubber or plastics coated fabrics to metal, concrete and synthetic surfaces.

What Is ISO 2411?

ISO 2411 standard test method describes a test to measure adhesion properties of rubber and plastic coated fabrics. Each test sample is pulled at a constant rate of extension until it breaks.

Why Perform Adhesion Tests on Coated Fabrics?

Adhesion tests are needed to ensure the quality of rubber-coated fabrics including tarpaulins, rainwear, outdoor clothing, and similar products. Understanding the basics of adhesion testing helps textile fabricators and development engineers determine which fabrics to use in their end applications. Adhesion testing delivers important results depending on the application of the fabric. For instance, good material bonds are especially important in composite applications where the fabric is going to be continuously flexed, folded, or exposed to high winds. Of course, it is important to compare results with other fabrics to determine the appropriate level of adhesion for given applications.

Test Machines for Coated Fabrics

Our universal test machines serve multiple plastic testing applications and are capable of performing all quasi static tension/compression tests, such as tensile, peel, adhesion, and flexural testing. Machine selection is best based on the number and type of tests anticipated in the future. The vast majority of fabric tests can be performed at loads below 5 kN (1125 lbs). Virtually all fabric tests require a uniform constant rate of extension (CRE), or constant velocity control mode with the vast majority occurring between 1 to 500 mm/min (0.04 to 20 in/min). Measurement of force complies with ISO 7500-1. ISO 2411 test speed is 100 mm/min (4 in/min).

What Test Fixtures Are Recommended for ISO 2411?

Mechanical Action Grips are affordable solutions featuring a wide variety of interchangeable jaws and accessories. Most mechanical grips feature a side opening vise design with smooth, serrated, and corrugated (wave) surface jaws.

Consider grip models G227 and G240K with serrated jaws and a handheld roller. Our 2 kg GTQC803A handheld roller is ideal for sample preparation.

ISO 2411 Test Specimens

Each sample is 50 mm (1.9 in) wide with a minimum length of 200 mm (7.8 in) and a resulting separation between the test grips of 75 mm (2.9 in) when mounted in the test machine.
