ISO 13936-1 Fixed Seam Opening Method for Slippage Resistance of Yarns at a Seam

ISO 13936-1 is intended for the determination of the resistance offered by thread systems of woven fabric, to slippage at a sewn seam. An unseamed and seamed part of a test specimen are separately extended by using a tensile testing machine, fitted with grab test jaws, to produce two force/extension curves originating from the same abscissa. The force required to produce a specified distance between the curves, equivalent to a specified seam opening is determined.

ISO 13936-2 is intended for the determination of the resistance offered by thread systems of woven fabric, to slippage at a sewn seam. A strip of fabrics folded and stiched across its width. The strip is cut near the fold and a force is applied to the strip at right angles to the seam using grab-test jaws. The extent to which the seam opens is measured.

ISO 13936-3 Needle Clamp Method Slippage Resistance of Yarns at a Seam

ISO 13936-3 describes a method for the determination of the resistance offered by the yarns of a woven fabric to slippage while being held in a needle clamp under conditions of stress. This method provides a means to negate variations introduced by seam preparation or sewing thread variation that can have a marked influence on test results.

The tensile-testing machine(CRE), which shall be provided with means for indicating or recording the force applied to the test specimen in extending it. Under conditions of use, the accuracy of the apparatus shall be class 1 of ISO 7500-1. The error of the indicated or recorded maximum force at any point in the range in which the machine is used shall not exceed +- 1 %.

For ISO 13936-1 & 2, The machine shall be capable of constant rate of extension of 50 mm/min, with an accuracy of +- 10 %. The machine shall be capable of setting the gauge length to 100 mm. For ISO 13936-3, the machine shall be capable of constant rate of extension of 50 mm/min +- 5 mm/min (and 20 mm/min +- 2 mm/min).
