BS 373 provides standard test methods for testing the various properties of clear wood specimens. Contained in BS 373 are procedures for conducting test in static bending, impact, compression parallel to the grain, compression perpendicular to the grain, shear parallel to the grain, cleavage, tensile parallel to the grain, and tensile perpendicular to the grain. Measurement of strength properties for wooden structures. Fixture and specimen requirements are given with each test procedure, with most tests containing provisions for both the 2 inch and 2 cm standard wood specimens. BS 373 is very similar to the newer test standard ASTM D143.
