ASTM D1708 Tensile Testing for Plastics and Microtensile Specimens

0 0

ASTM D1708 is a test method that has been used over time to measure the tensile and elongation properties of small plastic specimens. The official standard has been changed to match the same sample shape as found in ISO 12086-2. ASTM D1708 is not longer the standard method for testing microtensile specimens; the current common method is ASTM D638. ASTM D1708 is sometimes used for the convenient fact that an extensometer is not required for testing.

When testing microtensile plastic specimens, it is important to use a universal testing machine with a very accurate load cell (1%). Vise or pneumatic grips can be used as well.
