ASTM B571 quantifies various physical properties of metal coating substances such as gold, copper, silver and several others on their adhesion quality via various methods for quality standards comparisons. The standard describes several different tests and tables to compare different metallic coatings for a given application.
ASTM B571
This test practice is a simple set of tests to determine the adhesion of metallic coatings on various substances. These tests include: bend, burnish, chisel/knife, draw, file, grind and saw, heat/quench, impact, peel, push and scribe. The ASTM B571 Fixture for General Adhesion Testing can be used for the peel test. This test is commonly used if the coating will peel without tearing.
