ASTM A746 Ductile Iron Gravity Sewer Pipe Tensile Testing

The tensile testing of ductile iron gravity sewer pipe must be performed using the procedures specified in ASTM A746. It is necessary to test shouldered-end machine test specimen, commonly referred to as a dogbone or button head round specimen type with shouldered ends that are used for gripping the specimen during testing. The latest ASTM standards require that the test be run at specific stress rates under control and require an extensometer for accurate calculation of 0.2% Offset Yield and Ultimate Tensile Strength. This also covers trench load design procedures for both cement-lined pipe and flexible-lined pipe. Maximum depths of cover tables are included for both types of linings.
