Differences Between ECT and BCT

The ECT (Edge Crush Test) and BCT (Box Crush Test) are two completely separate tests yet they are similar in various ways. The Edge Crush Test involves taking a 2 x 2 cardboard specimen and crushing the edge between compression platens with our lowest cost tabletop machine. The Box Crush Test involves crushing an entire box with compression platens. Because it involves crushing a whole box, it general requires a larger test machine and larger compression platens.

The two tests are also related mathematically:

BCT = (5.876)(ECT)√Ud
BCT = Box compression test (lbs)
U = box outline (in)
d = thickness of corrugated board (in)
