Ceramics Testing
The term "Advanced" or "engineering ceramics" refers to special inorganic, non-metallic solids used on the Space Shuttle, gas burner nozzles, ballistic protection, bio-medical implants, jet engine turbine blades, and missile nose cones. Common ceramics are also used for structural products such as bricks, pipes, floor and roof tiles. The testing of advanced ceramics is a recent development and typically requires specialized test fixtures and machines.
