The ASTM D1004 standard lays out how to determine the tear resistance of bendable plastic film and sheeting at a comparatively low rate of loading, 51mm(1in)/min and is engineered to uncover the force to initiate tearing. The ASTM D1004 standard is not intended for specimen that exhibit brittle failure nor for specimen that extend beyond 101.6mm(4 in). NOTE: The official standard should be reported in SI units.
